Lookup, it's much better

Remember the tin can ceiling from before? Now is a proper ceiling.

All those wires have to go somewhere.

A couple of days into week 2 and the walls are just about ready for drywall. Wiring and electrical outlets all set.

The pink insulation is next.

End of the Week - Starting to shape up

It's the end of the first week and the walls/doorways are taking shape. The water pipes have been redirected and electrical boxes put in. There seems to be no power to Greg's room. ????

Day Three - the bay window is gone

Bye Bye bay window, you were bright and cheery when you were here.

Day Two - the drywall is gone

Day two and the drywall is all gone as well. Eric is noticed that the drain and water pipes are actually in the wall between the kitchen and dinning room and not in the pipe box we would think. We need to make a decision to either remove less wall that we initially wanted and not move the drain pipe OR move the drain pipe and be able to remove another 5-6 inches of wall. The benefit here is that there will be more space for the inner chair. I'll discuss with Eric in the morning and make a decision then.
The people that bought our dishwasher will also take the bay window, the donation they give us for it will also go the Habitat for Humanity.

First day - cabinets are gone...

After the first day the cabinets, counter top and ceiling are gone.

All the cabinets are currently in the garage hoping that Habitat for Humanity will take them.
We already sold the dishwasher, anyone need a gas stove? It is available.

My goodness, would ya look a the linoleum that was beneath the hardwood floors.
Scary!

Cleanout the Kitchen

It Sunday evening and we've been working like dogs to clean out the kitchen and setup as little kitchen area in our basement. The biggest challenge was moving the refrigerators, the old one in the basement was moved to the garage and the newer on in the kitchen was moved to the basement. We realized during the process that the basement door and handrail had to come off. We cleaned out the LCBO 3 times over the past week to get enough boxes to store everything.
Here are some pictures of the kitchen BEFORE the demolition starts tomorrow.

Even Sony the rabbit has been displaced, he is now upstairs in the hallway.

Granite for Countertop

Countertop has been decided and it's going to be granite and the type is called "labradorita". On the left is a sample image. Now personally, I think theimage on the right of black pearl more closely matches the slab we chose.

Black Labradorita
Black Pearl

In any case, it turns out this type of granite is actually cheaper than the "Hanstone" quartz we had originally pick.
