Choice of chairs

We have narrowed our selection of chairs down to 2;

This one is smaller, cheaper, more stylized, but less back support;

but this one is bigger, more square, more expensive and better back support;

Both swivel and are height adjustable.
We know which one Greg likes!

The appliances move in

Kick boards and appliances are put in place.

Check out the disappearing dishwasher, now you see it ...

... now you don't.

The floor is in

The floor was installed today. It is a laminate with the look and feel of slate.

The counter top is here

Finally, after a week of no action, the counter top is installed.
Have a look...

Here is the backsplash leaning against the wall and counter.

Electrical work and backsplash arrival

Remember the rat's nest of wires earlier? It's all tidied up now.

We picked up our backsplash tiles today and here is a sample of what they look like. The idea here was to tie in the white from the cabinets, the grey from the walls and the black from the countertop.

Ready for cabinet installation - fitting problem?

We're ready for the cabinet installation on Tuesday and my only concern is that one piece is too big to fit through the door and so, for the time being, it is stored in the garage.
It is the lower corner piece and it's smallest span is 38" while the front or side door is 32" wide. The sliding patio door at the back is only 28". I tried to see if I could take off the patio door (without breaking anything) but I could only get one door off.
Monarch's solution would be to cut off the kick boards and re-attach them once inside but I would like to avoid that if possible. I wonder why they never took the maximum door width into consideration while manufacturing it? Anyway, I'll talk to Marion when see arrives.

Painting the ceiling.

Leslie painted the ceiling while I closed the pool. The colour we chose for the ceiling was "Fossil Grey" also from CIL. On first glance, it looks very close to the colour of the walls. The pictures don't help. We're hoping the pot lights will make the ceiling look lighter.

Painting those walls

We all pitched in to paint the walls. The paint colour chosen is "Sea Gull Grey" from CIL.

Prime those walls

Before the cabinets are installed, we primed the walls and ceiling.

Cabinets to arrive on Thursday

The new cabinets are to be delivered on Thursday as well as the last appliance (microwave).
We need to prime and paint the walls and ceiling before the cabinets are installed. Painting before the cabinets arrive would also be easier as we don't have cover them or work around them.

There goes the floor

It's so long to the hardwood floor. I always wondered by people would put hardwood in a kitchen which is so prone to liquid spills that it would wreck it quickly. But it does look nice.

The ceramic tile in the hallway was also removed as the new kitchen floor will extend to the wall and around the corner to the top of the basement stairs. This will give the illusion that the kitchen is much wider. I'm not sure what the dark coating on the floor is but I imagine it's to level the floor under the tile.
